Take time to visit Falkirk
Falkirk is the main town of central Scotland located between the cities of Glasgow and Edinburgh, and in recent times, has become a much-preferred destination for millions of shoppers and visitors throughout the country.
The town centre boasts two large covered shopping centres - the Howgate and Callender Square, a retail park the likes of which you would normally find 'out-of-town', and a choice of local independent stores that most towns aspire to. Big name stores are located in centres and on pedestrianised High Street, and are complimented by the huge variety of independents 'off' High Street.
It's an absolute pleasure to explore the shops in the narrow cobbled lanes and those streets with names that evoke days of Falkirk's past such as Cow Wynd, Lint Riggs, Bank Street, Vicar Street and Newmarket Street.
If you visit Falkirk by car, you'll be pleasantly surprised at how easy it is to park - there are over 6000 parking spaces! Falkirk has two train stations - the High and Grahamston, and is served well by the bus network.
Spend a day in Falkirk, and visit the sensational Falkirk Wheel (opening Easter 2002). The steel structure towers over visitors as it fulfils its function as the world's first rotating boat lift, transferring boats from the Forth and Clyde to the Union Canal. Alternatively, visit historic Callender House, where costumed interpreters take you back to experience life in an 1820's kitchen.
Eating out in Falkirk is a Gastronomic treat, from fast food to award winning hotels, pubs and restaurants.
If you haven't visited or shopped in Falkirk in recent years, it's well worth making a special visit - you'' be made most welcome.
